Help us develop Shadow Girls
We're partnering with the Gladstone Hotel and grass roots artist collective Blank Canvas to present our first full length version of Shadow Girls after two years of workshopping-- including presentation at the Rhubarb Festival! A production that blends performance with overhead projector art in an intimate twenty seat room at the trendy Queen West arts + culture hub, the Gladstone Hotel.
Shadow Girls envelops audience members in transformative, otherworldly images as it details the relationship of Maggie and Amelia: two women whose attempts at an intimate relationship are complicated by a fraught mutual history involving years of separation following an adolescent hook-up-and-break-up. Projectionists manipulate the 360 degree projections in real time in front of the audience alongside the performance-- the result is experiential. Saturated with rich imagery and intimate moments, Shadow Girls is a sensuous presentation of a queer love story.
Shadow Girls was born of a desire for alternative theatre, love of overhead projectors, and passion for stories featuring women, queer folk and people of colour. After having collaborated on Persephone in 2016, Palm and Grosz became best creative buddy-partners and began developing the work. That process included heavy use of google docs and involved at least one fifteen minute escapade in making dolls fool around on a projector (see featured photo). The project then went on to be workshopped twice, including at the 2017 Rhubarb festival!
We need your help. Every dollar counts.
We're hoping that you, as someone who values the arts and believes in supporting artists with vision and bold new work, will donate to us. Any amount helps. Your gift will be put to use immediately.
Theatre runs on word of mouth. Nothing to give monetarily at this time? You can contribute to our success by telling your friends about what we're doing and posting about us on social media:
Where exactly does the money go?
We want you to know exactly what we're doing with your thoughtful donation. We're aiming to raise $2000. Here's how that money will be used:
